YEAR 5/6 FOOTBALL COMPETITION

SEPTEMBER 2023

The Year 5/6 football team are at it again! Just like last year, they have finished second in the local football competition thus have qualified for the district finals for the second year running.

The children started the competition with wins against Pilsley and Tibshelf 'B'. They then lost to Newton before picking up a draw against Westhouses. This meant that they needed a positive result in the final game against Tibshelf 'A'. I am pleased to say they got the victory required and they finished second in the league table.

We have - just this evening - received confirmation that we have qualified for the district finals. They will take place on Tuesday 24th October at The RH Academy in Pleasley ( (Mansfield Town FC's training academy). Full detail will be provided over the coming weeks.

YEAR 6 CRICKET COMPETITION

JUNE 2023

WOW! What a day! The weather was glorious, the children were superbly well behaved and we have only gone and won the gold medal in the cricket competition!

After winning two out of the three round robin games, the children were tied with another local school which meant there was to be a playoff. Fortunately, after some superb batting, bowling and fielding, the children won the match by 15 runs to win the competition.

Well done to everyone involved!

CROSS COUNTRY COUNTY FINAL

MARCH 2023

After a successful visit to St Marys for the district finals, we took three individuals and one team to the county finals, which had a very late change of venue!

Once again, all of the children performed superbly, with one of the Year 6 Boys winning the individual gold - a superb achievement to become the best boys cross country runner in Derbyshire.

Added to that, we had a top 5 finish in the Year3/4 boys competition and all of the other children completed a very long and difficult run successfully - two of the children joining to try and boost the boys team.

CROSS COUNTRY DISTRICT FINAL

FEBRUARY 2023

Some of our children qualified for the cross country district finals after winning their races last October at the local competition held at Morton.

The district final took place on 16th February 2023 at Mount St Marys, Spinkshill. We had qualified for the:

Y3&4 girls race

Y3&4 boys race

Y5&6 boys race

As this was a district final, the children were racing against schools from a much wider area. Well - we performed brilliantly!

Lydia won the Y3&4 girls race.

Ollie came second in the Y3&4 boys race.

The Y3&4 boys came third overall.

Jack won the Y5&6 boys race.

The Y5&6 boys came second overall.

What a performance!!! Our individual winners will now represent Stonebroom Primary & Nursery School at the county finals.

YEAR 2 INFANT AGILITY

FEBRUARY 2023

On Friday 10th February, the Y2 children competed against 6 other teams in a KS1 infant agility competition. It was so pleasing to watch them all compete and we especially liked the fact that it was a range of different children who collected ‘3 gems’.

Congratulations to our Y2 pupils who drew first place at the area KS1 agility competition. Well done!

YEAR 3/4 INVASION GAMES FESTIVAL

JANUARY 2023

On Thursday 26th January, the Year 3/4 children were taken to Frederick Gent School to learn about invasion games and get to know children from other schools. They started the afternoon with a warm up and then split into two groups to play benchball and a game of 'Toilet Line Tag' - according to the organisers, these both class as invasion games as they invaded their opponents space. Nevertheless, the children had a superb time and by the end of the afternoon, they were red faced and a little less lively than they were at the beginning!

Thanks must go to the parents who helped with transport as without them, we would not be able to attend these events.

YEAR 5/6 COUNTY FOOTBALL FINALS

DECEMBER 2022

On Thursday 1st December, the Year 5/6 children competed in the County Finals. The best 10 teams in the whole of Derbyshire came together to battle for the top spot.

We were drawn in Group A and our first game was a closely fought 0-0 draw. The second game we lost 2-0, the third game we lost 1-0 and we won the final game 2-1. The last match was obviously our favourite match as the children came from 1-0 down to win the game in the final 30 seconds.

We are so proud of our children. We are a single form entry school with less than 25 children in each class. We were competing against many schools which were three form entry - giving them roughly 90 children to choose from. This makes the achievement of our children even greater so well done to each and everyone of them.

Finally, we must say a massive thank you to all of the parents who came to support us again.

YEAR 5/6 SPORTS HALL ATHLETICS

NOVEMBER 2022

On Thursday, nineteen Year 5/6 children went to the sports hall athletics competition at Alfreton Leisure Centre. Having not been to the competition for many years, we weren't sure what to expect however they managed to secure the final podium position, which was a fantastic achievement.

Events included: sprint relays, long distance relays, over-under relays, obstacle relays, chest throw, standing jump and javelin.

Once again, the children were an absolute pleasure to take and they can't wait to go again next year - well the Year 5 children can't anyway!!

YEAR 5/6 DISTRICT FOOTBALL COMPETITION

OCTOBER 2022

WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW! I don't think there are any other words to describe the children's achievement.

Last month, they qualified for the district finals and this was a huge achievement for our school. Today, they not only performed superbly and held their heads high, they 'absolutely smashed-it' (if I am allowed to borrow a phrase from Mrs Holden) and were crowned the district champions for 2022!

In what can only be described as appalling weather conditions, the children had to play seven 12-minute games back-to-back. They won six of them and drew the other which meant we topped the league table by 5 points.

Each and every player in the team contributed superbly and I wish I would have recorded some the fantastic goals they scored, tackles they made and shots they saved as they never let up for the full 84 minutes of playing time.

Everybody at school is immensely proud of their achievements and we can't wait to see what they can achieve at the county finals on Thursday 1st December at Brookfield Secondary School.

I would just like to say a massive thank you to the parents for braving the weather and staying all afternoon to support. We really do appreciate it!

And one final thank you to Ian and Terry Hursthouse. For those eagle-eyed people, you will notice the children are wearing a kit they have never worn before. This is because Ian and Terry have kindly bought the kit for the children. Thank you very much from both the children and school.

The last thing we need to say is...... 'We are district champs, say we are district champs!'

OCTOBER 2022

Yesterday Mrs George & Mr Walmsley took 18 children to the local annual cross country competition at Morton. There were 9 schools competing, including some larger schools from out of the area.

Below is a small gallery from the event.

SEPTEMBER 2022

I would like to share the news that our upper junior football team has succeeded in getting into the next stage of the competition after finishing second. We will now play other winning teams from Derbyshire.

We are all so proud of every child involved. They all represented the school wonderfully and played with skill.

Also, thank you to the parents for their support today.

KS2 CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITION

OCTOBER 2021

Yesterday, some of our Key Stage 2 pupils participated in an annual cross country tournament against other local schools!

Despite the very wet weather, the children were fantastic! The downpour did not stop any of the children from trying their best and they made myself and Mrs George extremely proud! The overall results of the tournament are as follows:

  • Y3/4 Girls - Second Place
  • Y3/4 Boys - Third Place
  • 5/6 Girls - First Place
  • 5/6 Boys - Second Place

A huge well done to the following children who came in the top three of their own category:

Y3/4 Girls - Alana 2nd

5/6 Girls - Amelia 1st

5/6 Boys - Jack 2nd

We are all so proud of each child who attended. A huge thank you to parents for supporting your child with this event too!

Kind regards,

Miss Johal

YEAR 5/6 FOOTBALL COMPETITION

September 2021

On Wednesday 23rd September, some of the Year 5/6 boys took part in a football competition at Tibshelf Community School. There were three groups game which we lost by 1 goal in each case - Henez was the scorer of our only goal. In the final play-off game, we lost 3-0.

We (Mr Walmsley & Mrs Marshall) were very impressed with the effort the children put in and the improved teamwork that went on throughout the competition - some of the children only play football on the school playground!

So whilst the results did not go our way, the performance in each game was impressive so well done boys!
