Big Question
Our Curriculum
In the Early Years we follow the Development Matters Curriculum 2021. Please find below our Long Term plan for the year commencing September 2025. The plan outlines the topics we will be covering throughout the year and shows some of the areas we will be focusing on. We have three Prime areas, which we focus on Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Physical Development, throughout the year but particularly in the first term to help our children settle and feel confident and happy to be at Nursery.
Spring 1
Do fairy tales always have a happy ending?
This term our main focus will be on Literacy.
We will be reading lots of traditional tales and learning all about the very famous characters that appear in them. We will try to decide which characters are good and which characters are bad.
We will use our imaginations and learn through the area of Expressive Arts and Design by taking part in role play and small world play.
There will be lots of opportunities for children to develop their Communication and Language skills throughout this term, as we will be doing lots of talking and lots of small group discussion will take place.
We will become story tellers and retell the stories from our memories and even have a go at changing parts of the story.
We will have lots of fun whilst learning about all of these very famous and enjoyable traditional tales.

We will also be learning about what happens as the weather turns colder and water begins to freeze outside! We will be using our outdoor environment a lot, so get wrapped up warm!
We will be using spontaneous learning experiences, such as drawing and writing with warm water in the ice and snow!
We will also be helping the children to learn about special events that take place in these darker months, such as Diwali, Bonfire Night and Christmas.

Autumn 1
Who lives in my house?
This term we will be spending a lot of time getting to know our children inside out. This will help us to understand their learning needs and help us to make them feel settled and at home in our nursery. If you would like to know more about our topic for this term please look at the medium term plan below, which outlines some of the activities we will be doing. Any ideas or contributions to activities from parents are most welcome. If you have any questions about this term's topic please speak with a member of staff.
