Home Learning Art Task

During the school closure, as part of a home learning, the children were given a art task that showed them how to draw some animals. Mr Walmsley suggested that they could be sent to him and put online as he's always looking for drawing tips because he is terrible at drawing - Year 6 regularly laugh at him!

Here are the entries that we have had so far... and I must say, they are very good!

Our Roman Day

The Dragons had an amazing day learning all about Romans.

First they joined the Roman legion in Britannia and learnt all about how to be a soldier and what they would have to wear. The children really enjoyed looking in detail at all of the different parts of a Roman soldier’s uniform and the equipment they would have to carry and the tasks they would have to perform. They learnt how to march correctly and completed a range of shield drills.

The next session was looking at a range of every day Roman artefacts and being archaeologists trying to figure out what them items were made of, what they were for and how they fitted into the Roman way of life. They had a quiz all about the artefacts.

After lunch, they played the food game, learning about the kinds of foods that Romans ate. They then learnt about aqueducts and took part in an engineering problem solving task to see who could make the most efficient aqueduct, working as a team. The children then made their own oil lamp from clay - this was a very difficult task but the children persevered and made some amazing artefacts of their own. After that, they played a game based on rock, paper, scissors with infantry, archers and cavalry.

Well done to all of the Dragons who behaved in an excellent manner and looked amazing! Thanks to all parents for your support in providing the children with their costumes and a huge thank you to our visitor Severus Septimus (Jennifer) from Viking school visits for sharing a fantastic Roman day with our class.

An Interview with Julius Caesar

This week, we have been finding out all about a famous Roman named Julius Caesar. We researched information about him from the Internet and the wonderful books about Romans in our classroom. Then, one member of our class bravely volunteered to become Caesar and we interviewed that person to consolidate our knowledge. Mrs. Kaye can't wait to see how we record this work.

Classroom Invasion

On Friday, we returned to the classroom to discover that it had been invaded. We didn't know who had done it or why it had happened. The place was trashed and our equipment was everywhere! We talked about how it made us feel and what an invasion of a country might be like and wrote all about it. This helped us to answer this week's question,

"What is it like to be invaded and which countries have been invaded recently?"

Roman Holiday Homework

We made some amazing Colosseum models to start our topic on the Romans and some of use did some additional research about the Romans too!

What do we know about the Romans?

We wrote down everything that we already know about the Romans and then wrote some questions based on what we would like to know. There were so many questions! I wonder whether we'll be able to answer them before the end of term.
