Mr Pepper from Silverscreen Education visited Meerkats class this week to deliver a workshop using film to introduce our topic 'What would it be like to live in Japan?' We investigated some pictures of Japan and watched a travelogue before writing our own travel sentences about Japan. After looking at the hustle and bustle of Tokyo with its skyscrapers and busy Shibuya crossing, we watched clips of the Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli) film 'My Neighbour Totoro' which is set in rural Japan. We enjoyed seeing some Japanese animation and wrote sentences about the story of Mei and Satsuki. Whilst we drew pictures of the mysterious Totoro, we worked in groups with Mr Pepper and made a travel film about Japan using green screen. Our finished film will be ready in a few weeks so watch this space for our Meerkats film premiere!
