    Year 1- Tamworth Castle

13 July 2022 (by Miss Rowland (elephants))

Year One have enjoyed their first ever school trip today to Tamworth Castle.

We have had a wonderful time deepening our learning about castles. We started the day participating in a workshop in the castle kitchen. We learnt what food they would have eaten and all helped to set a table. We looked at the plates and cutlery for the rich and servants and compared the two. The most important people sat closest to the Lord and Lady so we ensured they had the better dining wear.

After. we had a tour of the castle. We were fantastic at identifying the parts of a castle and got to see first hand what it would be like waiting behind the arrowloops ready to fight. We climbed to the top of the tower and admired the views through the battlements. We saw the castle bedrooms, the guard room and the nursery. We played in the armoury and tried on different outfits.

Then it was lunch time. We were all hungry (as usual) and enjoyed our yummy treats.

In the afternoon we had a squire workshop. We worked together to dress a knight with armour and impressed the leaders with the facts we have been learning in class. After, we used bills to do a 'bill drill' to show we could complete our knight training.

The behaviour of Elephant class was superb and as usual they made us all proud. Take a look at the link below to see some pictures of our day.
