    Sheep Class - Birds nest

1 July 2021 (by Miss Gill (sheep))

We have had a great day discovering baby birds.

What a very exciting day in Sheep Class! For a little while now, we have been watching a Wren build a nest in our stage area! He is nesting under the shelter, in our curtains. We have watched him collect stick, moss and grass to build his nest. Recently, we think he has been nibbling on our strawberries and we made signs asking the bird to stop and made bird feeders for him, near his nest.

Today, we made a discovery! In the nest now is a mummy, daddy and two babies. The mummy and daddy are very busy and fly in and out of the nest carrying food in their beaks and giving it straight to the babies. The babies are very curious little birds and every time they hear Sheep Class they pop their heads out to say hello.

We have taken this opportunity to create a range of learning experiences for the children and we have had a great afternoon learning about Wrens. We learnt about what they eat, how long the babies stay in their nest before the fledge, how the nest is made and we also learnt how much they weigh. We cannot believe they are as a light as a £1 coin.
