    Elephants- P4C day

5 June 2019 (by Miss Rowland (elephants))

We have had a fantastic P4C celebration day in Elephant class! Our stimulus has been Jack and the Beanstalk.

This morning we did lots of activities practicing our P4C skills. First we all got a pouch of magic beans. We discussed and then labelled our wishes for what the beans could do or provide us with. After that we used our imaginations to draw what could be at the top of the beanstalk. We also used a venn diagram to sort characteristics of Jack and the Giant. Although they are very different characters, we also found some similarities! This afternoon we completed an enquiry. Our question was 'Is it ever ok to steal?' We used a large, golden egg as our talking tool. First we unpicked what the word stealing means. After, we voted whether or not Jack was right stealing the hen or not. Then we discussed stealing outside of Jack and the Beanstalk and I was amazed with the children's mature ideas! We made concept stretchers in pairs of items that would be least worse to worse for someone to steal and gave our reasons. We all could offer a final thought on our big question. It is great to see how far the children have come in our discussions and we have lots of independent thinkers. Follow the link below for some pictures from our day.
