Yesterday our Y3 & 4 football team entered the inter school football tournament at Tibshelf and WON!
Mrs Beresford tells us how:
Miss Gill and I have never been football fans, but after tonight’s match we have been converted! We were so excited and proud of our team, that we were jumping up and down on the side lines!
There were 8 schools competing to become tournament champions.
As the tournament started we were left to sit out for the first match, but it gave us chance to size up the competition.
We were up against Pilsley Primary in the second match.LWh was in goal and made some fantastic saves. Half way through the match, KP swerved around the other players to put one past the goal keeper and scored the first of many goals of the tournament. The game finished 1-0 to Stonebroom.
In the third game Stonebroom faced Blackwell. But they were no competition for our strikers, as first KP put one in the back of the net, which was then closely followed up with a second goal from LWh. The game ended 2-0 to us.
The fourth game saw Stonebroom v Tibshelf. And once again the mighty Stonebroom team finished undefeated with KP having put a goal swiftly past the Tibshelf goal keeper to end the game 1-0 to Stonebroom.
We finished the first round of the tournament undefeated and having not let one single goal in.
This meant that we headed into the final to battle for either first or second place. Stonebroom v Heath Primary.
After an excruciating 7 minutes of good defending and amazing effort to score a goal the match ended with no score. This meant that the match would continue on into extra time – 5 minutes were added to the game.
After one minute of extra time, LWh swerved around all of Heath’s players to hit the back of the net.
Within the next minute, KP cleverly manoeuvred around the goal keeper to safely score another goal, putting us 2-0 up!
We could not wait for the final whistle to blow! It finally did, meaning a 2-0 victory to Stonebroom!
Although it was LWh and KP who scored the goals, it was the whole team working together that succeeded in winning the tournament. AH, LK and JM worked well in defence and LWi, HL and JK all took turns in goal.
Miss Gill and I could not have been prouder of the children’s team work and overall effort and sportsmanship. The children behaved impeccably.
We can’t wait for the next tournament!
