Elephants- Homework9 September 2025 (by Miss Rowland (elephants)) |
Another super day in Elephant class. With reading books having been sent home, I thought I would share the expectations of homework in Year One.
- Children are to try and read at least three times per week. When they have read their reading book three times, they are to pop it in the box at the front of the classroom so that we know it needs changing. This can take a while to train the Year Ones in doing this, therefore if your child's book needs changing, popping it in their hand as they enter school during the Autumn term would be helpful.
- On Thursday, children will be coming home with their phonics pet homework. Yesterday they all chose a pet cuddly toy to adopt and completed their adoption certificates. This pet will help them do their phonics homework this year. Every Thursday children will come home with homework based on one sound. They will have words to read and an activity based on the sound to complete. They are to complete and return it by the following Wednesday when they will then receive a stamp on their pet passports. At the end of the term, all children with full passports, will receive a treat.
- In their phonics pet packs, I have popped a sheet of the 'red words' children are expected to read and spell this year. It would be fab if you could focus on a couple each week, encouraging your child to read and write them. When you feel your child is secure with a word tick it off.
Thank you for your support with this, it is greatly appreciated.
