    Information regarding Year 6 learning

27 January 2021 (by J Walmsley (mr walmsley))

Please find in the news item information regarding Year 6 learning for the remainder of this half term.

    Hello Year 6 Parents,
Just a couple of things for your information:
    English Lessons
The children can do it in one of two ways:
    1) Read the book themselves and then answer the questions.
    2) Or listen to me read the story with the questions mixed in so they need to focus.
We will not be reading a chapter everyday as I want to do some work around the chapter too.
If you have any feedback for me regarding the length of the English work, then I would really appreciate it.
    Maths Lessons
I have tried to make the maths lessons simpler by putting the videos into the slides and trying to shorten them. If you could encourage your child to use the videos, I would really appreciate it as today many of them haven't because they have not understood the half squares.
    Regular Teams Meetings
I was hoping to do a daily meet for 5-10 minutes but unfortunately at this moment, I am not in a position to be able to do that. I put a message/video on the announcements page of Seesaw every morning. The minute I am in a position to offer daily teams meetings, I will offer it to Year 6 children because it is similar to what is happening in some secondary schools and we can't 100% guarantee that we won't have a similar situation next winter.
    Star of the Week
Just a quick reminder that these take place every Friday at 2.30pm. It has been fantastic to see the children every week. Could I just ask everyone to remind their children to make sure they are appropriately dressed and have a suitable background in order to make sure there are no safeguarding issues. This week, I think I have figured out how to go into small rooms so I am hoping to do that this week so we get to talk to each other a bit more.
    Welfare calls
Every other Wednesday I make welfare calls however, I am going to wait until Monday/Tuesday afternoons next week so I can talk to you and the children about the English.
Finally, can I once again thank you for your effort and support with home learning. I appreciate how tricky balancing work/home commitments and home schooling is and therefore everything you are doing to support the children is fantastic. If there is anything I can do to help or support home learning, then please feel free to ask and if I can, I will do it.
    Take care and stay safe.
