    Elephants- Tamworth Castle

    Our trip to Tamworth Castle...

Well, what an amazing day we have had at Tamworth Castle. It really brought our learning to life and we enjoyed pointing out the features of a castle we have been learning about in class. We even tested out the theory of all castle staircases going the same way so the knights can easily fight on the stairs if needed. We used some super vocabulary going round the castle such as barbican, battlements and crenellations! We visited the dungeon, armoury, tower, dining room and chambers. In our first workshop we did some knight training! We had to work out where the different pieces of armour went on a knight and then we had to practice fighting techniques using billhooks. In our second workshop, we met the Lady of the house. We learnt how to bow and curtsey correctly. Her slave hadn't turned up for work so we had to help set her table up for her banquet later today. We learnt lots of new things about life in a medieval castle such as they didn't use forks to eat and having salt on your table was a sign you were rich! We then went into the lady's chamber and she showed us what children our age would have worn in medieval times. We had a fantastic day and our behaviour was excellent!
