Eco Team

Welcome to the Eco Team page.

We have been elected by our classes to help improve the environment in school and to help with issues in the wider world.

Each week we will be in charge of recycling - paper, food and plastic being our main focus.

We will also run campaigns each term to raise awareness of issues affecting our world and what we can do to make a difference. We each need to take action to help protect the wonderful word we live in.

We will keep you updated about our campaigns and hope that you will all join us in our mission.

Crisp Packet Recycling September

Welcome back to school everyone!  We hope you have been saving your empty crisp packets over the summer? We have received several large bags full already, so please keep them coming!

From Monday 9th September there will be two black bins in the entrance yard (where you drop your children in the mornings).  They will be clearly labelled, so could you please put your empty crisp packets in there, squish them down and when the bins are full we will send them to Terracycle.  We have sent 16kg. of crisp packets so far, so well done everyone! Keep saving your packets!  The outer packet of multi packs can be recycled too, but please don't tie the packets, they need to be empty and flat, that's all!

Thank you to everyone who is contributing to this scheme.

Please watch this space - we are hoping to join more recycling schemes with Terracycle within the next few weeks!

Crisp packet recycling scheme - April

We, as a school, have recently signed up to to join their recycling campaign.  We talked about this in the Assembly yesterday which focused on the importance of recycling, reusing, refusing and reducing our waste, and the positive impact this will have on our future existence.  We have had a very enthusiastic response from the children, and hopefully this will be discussed at home, and families will get on board too .  So please bring in your empty crisp packets and put them in the clearly labelled boxes within school!  For every 2 kg of waste we send to TerraCycle, we get £2 for our school!

OK, so you may ask the question:

What is TerraCycle?

"TerraCycle is Eliminating the Idea of Waste® by recycling the "non-recyclable." Whether it's coffee capsules from your home, pens from a school, or plastic gloves from a manufacturing facility, TerraCycle can collect and recycle almost any form of waste. We partner with individual collectors such as yourself, as well as major consumer product companies, retailers, manufacturers, municipalities, and small businesses across 20 different countries. With your help, we are able to divert millions of pounds of waste from landfills and incinerators each month."

.... there is your answer!  Have a look at their website to learn more, and please join us to make a difference!  The crisp packet recycling scheme is just the beginning!  If we, as a community, get on board with this, we can then join other recycling schemes within TerraCycle!  We can make money for our school and the black bins at our homes will be empty!

If you need any more info or have any ideas on how we can collect and recycle the "non-recyclable", please contact  Miss Thompson or The Eco Team at school.

Switch Off Campaign

Over the last few weeks we have been thinking about switching off electrical items we don't need. We had an assembly and then we worked with our class teachers on this important topic. We know now to turn off the lights when we leave a room, to turn off items when they are on stand by, to turn the heating down when we aren't in the room and not to boil lots of water in our kettles.

We then had a competition to design an eye catching poster for our school. The Eco Team chose the winning posters and the winners will now see their posters up around school to remind everyone to Switch Off and save electricity!!
