The teaching of music is based upon the fact that it is a creative and social art to be enjoyed. Children have the opportunity to enjoy musical experiences through listening, singing, movement and dance and by playing tuned and un-tuned percussion.
Children in the Foundation stage and Key Stage 1 enjoy lively music lessons each week and also experience singing on a daily basis. The Infants produce a Christmas performance each year and the Nursery children take part in a nativity also. These include many musical features.
In Key Stage 2 we employ a specialist music teacher to teach brass instruments to the Y3 pupils and give them the best opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in this area of the curriculum - they are then given the opportunity to continue learning their instrument in years 4,5 & 6. All children learning a brass instrument put on three performances a year for the rest of the school and parents/carers.
Year 4 and 5 pupils are taught the ocarina and Year 6 pupils, the recorder.
We also have a school choir who sing together each week.
Please use your child's year group page to find out what they are learning about each half term!
