    Year 3 - Art Day

25 September 2018 (by Mrs Marsh (koalas))

On Friday, we studied the artist Henri Matisse.

Henri was French and gave up his law degree to study art. Henri was known for using bright colours in his paintings. Unfortunately, Henri became ill and was confined to a wheelchair - however this did not stop him and he decided to create collages with a technique he called 'painting with scissors'.

The children loved learning about Henri and discovered that if they put their mind to it, they could achieve anything!

To follow in Henri's footsteps, we created some paper machete bowls - once they were set, we used bright colours to paint our bowls.

In order to create his collages, Henri would cut and tear pieces of brightly coloured paper before arranging them. The children used balloons as a base and cut funky shapes out, in brightly coloured paper and card and then arranged them onto their balloons.
